INTRODUCTION / INLEIDING

The Southern African Grain Laboratory (SAGL) is incorporated under Section 21 (Association not for gain). The SAGL was established on request of the South African grain industry in 1997 after the disbandment of the South African Wheat and Maize Boards.

Vision: To be recognized as the market leader in grain analysis in Southern Africa.

Mission:

The SAGL Board of Directors is being represented by the following interest groups in the grain industry:

SAGL personnel / personeel:

The SAGL personnel consist of 24 people with more than 250 years experience in the grain industry. 

SAGL has fully equipped laboratories that comply with the highest expectations. The personnel are well trained 
and has years of experience in wheat and maize quality analysis.

SAGL has a range of different mills as specified in international published methodology we follow.

Grading:

We have qualified wheat and maize graders. Grading is being done on different grains.

Chemical:

In our chemical laboratories we do analysis such as protein, moisture, ash, dietary fibre, crude fibre, carbohydrates, energy value, diastatic activity, damaged starch, falling number, fat, starch content, five different mycotoxins as well as GM analysis. (See list “type of analysis”).

Rheology:

We do farinogram, alveogram, consistogram, extensogram, mixogram, gluten, 100g baking and commercial baking analysis.

Vitamin and minerals:

The SAGL offer a range of different vitamin analyses (HPLC), the whole range of amino-acids (HPLC) and also mineral analyses (AA).
